A Photoblog of life and nature thought one mans eyes. Share the adventure in the rural jungle around Toronto as I attempt to capture the world as I see it and hopefully develop and grow my photography skills along the way.

Moon Jellyfish

The Moon jellyfish is carnivorous and mainly feeds on plankton like mollusks, crustaceans and copepods. They are also known to feed on zooplankton like hydromedusae and ctenophores. Moon jellyfish of all ages are equipped with venom filled nematocysts on their tentacles to help them procure food by stinging their victim and trapping in within mucus.

Star Trail

This is a star trail I took last night. Its a total of about 45 minutes and 4 stacked images. The moon is low in the horizon but still very bright, which is why I think the trails are not as vivid as I would have liked. I will certainly try this one again, next time I think more shorter exposures would help too.

Northern Lights

I was lucky enough to lookup in the night sky this winter and catch a glimpse of this beautify celestial phenomenon. I wasnt lucky enough however to have my camera at the time. I rushed home, grabbed my gear and drove to the nearest dark street to capture this shot and a few others before the event was gone completely. The lights were almost gone by the time I got back so I needed to use long exposures to capture the faint dance waves of light. This was my first taste of Aurora Borealis for many many years, Ill be sky watching here after in hopes to get another photo-op.

Sunny Afternoon in the Country

I took this picture on the weekend. This is my first IR post. I love the feel that IR gives a picture. On this particular picture I choose to swap the red and blue channels around and sharpen up the levels, I like the winter like affect if left.

Middle of a Lightning Storm

Stood out in the rain like an fool a few days ago, trying to capture a lighting shot. I managed a few, here is the best one. I was a little paranoid about my camera getting wet not to mention the amount of lighting that was freqently occuring all around me, but I held my ground for a good 60 minutes before retiring my efforts. Next time, Ill get in the car and travel to a better location, perhaps in a field or other location where my horizon is not blocked by trees and houses.

Seagull Fly By

During my last trip to Leslie Spit, we came across, according to the sign, an Environmentally Significant Area. We ventured a little peek at what lied beyond the sign to discover the largest gathering of birds I've ever seen. Without a word of a lie, there were thousands upon thousands of birds. I took a bunch of shots, mostly of seagulls, which dominate the area. Today I'm going to post a bunch of these seagull pics and link them via PhotoTilts link image feature. Give them a look by clicking on the small thumbnail to the right. Im sure by the time your done, your be as sick of seagulls as I am. =)
